Sidewalks Optional

As one would expect in moving to a city that was built before cars, the streets are narrow and parking is a beast.  What we didn't expect was for the sidewalks to not only be just as narrow, but often limited to one side of the street and often impassable. Particularly challenging with two overexcited and darting dogs that don't recognize cars, or more importantly bikes as something to stay away from, not pull towards.

Whether it's a motorbike perfectly centered
between building and street...

garbage waiting to be collected,

benches and tables from cafes spilling out to the street, a garden offering privacy to someone's front windows, a port-a-potty,

or just grown men dressed up for a renaissance fair having a pint... using the sidewalk becomes optional.

When we do find a scrap of sidewalk to corral our dogs we are reminded that people would really prefer them to be in the street ("Poop not on the stoop.")

So far we've only been cursed at once.
